Upgrading Environmental Standards in Qaleh Bala/ Installation of Waste Segregation Bins on the Path to Global Registration

The head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Shahroud County announced the implementation of a waste management plan and the installation of standard waste bins with segregation capabilities in the village of Qaleh Bala, considering this action a vital step towards improving environmental indicators and obtaining the necessary points for this tourist village to join the network of global villages (UN Tourism).

According to the reporter of Mirath Arya, Seyyed Mohammad Sadegh Razavian said on Saturday, 6 June 2026: In line with preparing the tourist village of Qaleh Bala for registration in the list of global villages and with the aim of upgrading waste management standards and environmental cleanliness, the Qaleh Bala village council has purchased and installed standard waste bins in the main routes of tourist traffic and the historical texture of the village. The head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Shahroud County, referring to Qaleh Bala as one of Iran's main candidates for joining the network of global villages of the United Nations World Tourism Organization, added: This village is currently witnessing extensive infrastructure projects to achieve worthy hospitality for tourists and global standards. He further pointed to the special feature of this equipment and said: The installation of waste segregation labels on the new bins indicates the special attention of the local management to the details of environmental standardization and sensitivity to the precise criteria of international evaluators. Razavian stated: This action not only helps maintain the cleanliness of the passages but also provides a suitable foundation for promoting a culture of responsible tourism among visitors. The head of the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Shahroud County, while appreciating the efforts of the Qaleh Bala village council, noted: Environmental cleanliness and optimal waste management are among the key criteria in the evaluation of the World Tourism Organization. Following this, Alireza Key Qobadi, the village head of Qaleh Bala, emphasized the importance of this action in ensuring the welfare of tourists and preserving the visual appearance of the terraced village, and considered the continuation of this process a priority for local management. The village head of Qaleh Bala concluded: The organization of passages and the improvement of environmental services in Qaleh Bala have accelerated in recent months. We are confident that these infrastructural measures, while enhancing the travel experience for tourists, will bring the necessary points for obtaining the title of "Global Village" to this valuable region and the gateway to the Turan Wildlife.
