Execution of the Second Phase of Archaeological Excavation at Qaleh Bala Bijar Mound
The head of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Department of Bijar County said: "The second phase of archaeological excavation of the historical Qaleh Bala mound in Bijar County will be carried out with a budget of over 5 billion Rials next year."
According to Mirath-Aria, quoting the Public Relations of the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts of Kurdistan Province, Mohammad Moradi announced on Monday, December 30, 2019: "The first phase of excavation of this valuable historical site was carried out in early summer this year with a budget of 6 billion Rials by an archaeological team led by Dr. Vali Pour, a faculty member of Shahid Beheshti University of Tehran, and for the second phase of this excavation, a budget of 5 billion Rials has been allocated for the year 2020. It is hoped that next year, the exact location and age of this mound will be excavated and studied archaeologically."
He then pointed out that Qaleh Bala mound has special strategic and archaeological features, and continued: "The first feature of this mound is its location in the middle of Bijar city, which deserves to be examined with great care, because this indicates the time and manner of human settlement from pre-historic millennia to the present in this city and region, and contains very valuable information about the ups and downs of culture and civilization in this city."
Moradi concluded: "Due to the special importance of this ancient mound, it is necessary to design and implement a targeted program for its archaeological research."
