Archaeologists Play an Important Role in Strengthening Cultural Identity / Continuation of Archaeological Excavation of Qaleh Bala Mound in Bijar County

According to Mirath-Aria and quoting the Public Relations of the General Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Kurdistan Province, Mohammad Ibrahim Elyasvand stated on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in a meeting with the archaeological team of Qaleh Bala in Bijar County, which was held with the presence of relevant officials at the city's Governorate: Qaleh Bala is among the few ancient sites in the country whose age dates back to the third millennium BC. The head of the Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Department of Bijar, referring to the continuation of the archaeological excavation of this site in Bijar County, added: Given the strategic location of this historical mound in the center of Bijar city, its excavation must be carried out with great care. He stated: We hope that by determining the boundaries and protection zone of this mound, we can resolve some of the problems of the residential and commercial units around it, and by completing the opened trenches, the historical and ancient layers of this valuable multi-thousand-year-old site will be identified and the ground will be prepared for further excavations. Elyasvand recalled: At the end of this meeting, the archaeological team of Qaleh Bala mound located in Bijar County was honored. The historical site of Qaleh Bala mound in Bijar County has been registered in the National Heritage List under number 420.
